Early Life and Education
Uru Kalanwa Eke was born on October 11th, 1979 in Newham, East London, United Kingdom, though she is descended from the Mbaise region of Imo State in southern Nigeria.
She completed her elementary education at Galleywall Infants School in London before relocating to Nigeria, where she completed her secondary education at Baptist Girls College in Lagos.
She went back to London to finish her education, enrolling in Lewisham Southwark College before continuing on to the University of Greenwich, where she majored in business information technology.
Uru Eke also has a younger sister who is very supportive. Her parents were never married; she just grew up knowing that her mum was a single parent. And she did a great job of raising Uru and her sisters alone.
Career
Uru started her IT career as soon as she graduated from high school, working as a Business Acceptance Test Analyst for some of the top financial companies in the UK, including Zurich International, Legal & General, HSBC, Halifax, and Lloyds TSB.
She enrolled in vocational training programs while working a 9 to 5 job, honed her skills, and is now an experienced, trained actor, event host, and associate producer of Dream Walker and the soon-to-be-released movie “Remember Me.”
With a London-based acting group called “The association of multinational performing Artists” in the UK, Uru officially started her acting career in 2011. She appeared in several stage plays and in-house productions during this time.
She has also appeared in several movies, including “Forgive me, Dad,” “Ebony,” “Lucky Joe,” “Widows Men,” “African Soldier,” “The Return of Ogidi,” “Friends in Love,” “Save the Prince,” “The Gift,” “Timeless Passion,” “Strive,” “Darkside,” “Last Flight,” “Weekend Getaway,” “One Last Word,” “The Duplex,” and “Being Mrs. Elliot.”
In a September 2012 interview with Uru for CNN’s “Inside Africa” program, which has 300 million viewers worldwide, Vladimir Duthiers asked her about how she got into acting, the 2012 Nollywood blockbuster “Last Flight to Abuja,” in which she played the chief air hostess, and her future goals.
Aside acting, Uru has co-hosted many renowned events like the 2014 Nollywood Movie awards with celebrities like Dakore Egbuson, Gideon Okeke and Denerele Edun as well as the closing ceremony for the African International Film festival alongside Ramsey Noah, Gideon Okeke and Yvonne Ekwere, thereby ensuring a steady growth in her career in Entertainment.
She also founded the Chime For Art Foundation which was raised and established by her quest and burning desire to positively affect society and be a change agent using film.
