Martha Campbell Plimpton, born November 16, 1970, better known as Martha Plimpton, is an award-winning American actress and internet personality. She made her feature film debut in Rollover (1981), and she later gained notoriety in Richard Donner’s The Goonies (1985).
Martha Plimpton also acted in the films Small Town Murder Songs (2010), Raising Hope (2010), Parenthood (1989), Shy People (1987), The Mosquito Coast (1986), and Running on Empty (1988). (2011).

Early Life and Education
Martha Plimpton was born in the city of New York where she grew up with her parents and siblings.
She is the daughter of the actors Shelley Plimpton and Keith Carradine. Her parents first met while appearing in Hair on Broadway.
John Carradine, a famous actor, was her paternal grandpa. She is George Plimpton’s eighth cousin once removed, a writer and editor.
She shares a family connection with cartoonist Bill Plympton despite the spelling difference. She was a student at the Manhattan Professional Children’s School.
Her mother brought her on stage for the curtain call of the Broadway play The Leaf People, which had a brief run, and then for another play in The Ass and the Heart. This was her first time performing on stage.
Career
Martha Plimpton’s performances on Broadway in The Coast of Utopia (2006–2007), Shining City (2006–2007), Top Girls (2007–2008), and Pal Joey have earned her recognition (2008–2009).
She has also appeared in The Sisters Rosensweig, Uncle Vanya, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Playboy of the Western World, and The Glass Menagerie.
She appeared in a revival of A Delicate Balance on Broadway in the fall of 2014, and from March 2016 to March 2017 she starred in the ABC sitcom The Real O’Neals.
She received a nomination for an Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series Primetime Emmy Award for her role as Virginia Chance in the Fox sitcom Raising Hope.

Martha Plimpton and actor River Phoenix met in 1985. While co-starring in Peter Weir’s The Mosquito Coast in February 1986, they started dating after first getting along poorly.
They later starred together in Sidney Lumet’s movie Running on Empty. Due to Phoenix’s substance usage, their relationship came to an end in June 1989.
Nevertheless, they kept their connection strong right up to his passing in 1993.
Plimpton afterwards said, “Part of the reason why we broke up was because I realized that yelling, arguing, and pleading wouldn’t make him change.
He needed to change, but he wasn’t ready to do so yet.”
