The star-studded event saw Maria Wavinya and Franklyn Herbert crowned as Miss World Kenya and Mr. World Kenya, 2019 respectively. The two represented Kenya in the Mr. and Miss World competition in London in December the same year.

Early Life and Education
Maria Wavinya was born on 27 May 2000. Maria is from Kenya’s Nyandarua County. She was raised in Mombasa by a single mother who died when she was 12 years old, forcing her to move upcountry to live with her grandmother
Maria went to Suswa Primary School in Kinangop Constituency where Maria had her elementary education before moving on to Manunga Secondary School in Kipipiri Constituency for her secondary school education.
Maria finished high school at St. Teresa High School. She later pursued a cabin crew course at Kenya Airways while studying mass communication at Mount Kenya University.

Maria entered the career as model and beauty queen in her early life after completing her formal education. She is seen as one of the most successful models and beauty queens of all times.
Miss Maria Wavinya is a protégé signed under The Aftermath Modeling Agency. Despite being young, she is an experienced model. Because of this, she is the Kids modeling trainer and choreographer at The Aftermath modeling Agency.

Miss Tourism Nyandarua:
Maria participated in Miss Tourism Nyandarua in May 2019 and was placed fifth, thus failing to capture the crown.
Miss World Kenya:
On 5 October 2019, Maria was crowned winner of Miss World Kenya 2019 at a ceremony held at Two Rivers Mall, Nairobi, Kenya.
Miss World:
Maria Wavinya took part in the 69th edition of the prestigious Miss World competition held in London on Saturday 14th of December 2019 and Kenya’s very own beauty queen was only a few placements shy of winning the blue crown. She emerged in the last 12 of beauty queens in the world.
Maria only 18 years of age as at the time was the youngest ever crowned Miss World Kenya and a mass communication student at top Kenyan university. She was placed 6th in the competition that had representatives from 111 countries.
She advanced to the top 40 by judges’ choice and then to the top 12 as one of two African countries in the competition, but she was defeated by Nigeria’s Nyekachi Douglas, who was placed in the top 5 and ultimately became Miss World Africa.
Toni-Ann Singh of Jamaica won the pageant in 2019. That was the first time in history that black women held the titles for Miss France 2020, Miss USA, Miss Teen USA, Miss America, Miss Universe, and Miss World.
