Early Life
Ana Maria Marković (born 9 November 1999) is a Croatian footballer who plays as a forward for the Croatian women national team as well as the Swiss Women’s Super League club, Grasshopper
Marković is of Croatian descent from her mother’s side, who comes from Split. Marković was born in Split, and moved with her family to Switzerland when she was 12 years old, growing up in Zürich.
Career
Markovic began playing football in Switzerland when she was 14 years old, stating that she was inspired by the growth of women’s football.
She featured for FC Zurich Frauen U21 in Switzerland for three seasons where she scored 7 goals from 26 appearances before making the move to Grasshopper.
Over two seasons with Grasshopper, the star clocked up 55 appearances, finding the back of the net 15 times.
Having caught the eye of the Croatian Football Federation while playing for Grasshopper in Switzerland, Marković was called up to play for the Croatia national team.
She scored a goal in the 4 – 0 thrashing of Moldova by Croatia in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualification played on 30 November 2021 at Stadion Aldo Drosina, Pula, Croatia.
However, don’t expect to see Markovic at Euro 2022 in England this summer, with Croatia failing to qualify for the major tournament.

Maria Markovic has credited her call up to the international to the Manchester United forward, Christiano Ronaldo. Ana had this to say:
“There are many good players among the women, such as [Ramona] Bachmann.
“But my absolute favourite player is Cristiano Ronaldo because he’s just so disciplined. I think it’s super important that you give your all in sport and have a good mindset like him.”
The world’s ‘most beautiful footballer’ and ‘sexiest footballer’ label
Ana Maria Markovic might have been dubbed the ‘world’s most beautiful footballer’ – but she rejects the label as being ‘sexy’.
Marković was pleased with the ‘world’s most beautiful footballer’ descriptor given to her by online articles, however, admitted she isn’t so fond of the second adjective. She had this to say:
“I liked the articles that called me the most beautiful footballer or one of the most beautiful because it makes me happy to hear that I am beautiful,”
Marković replied, telling the journalist she feels the title ignores her ability on the field and reduces her to simply her looks.
“But then newspaper articles appeared in which I was described as the sexiest footballer. I didn’t like that.”
The Croatian player has turned many heads during her career – and not just for her moves on the ball. Indeed, the 22-year-old forward, who plays for Swiss Women’s Super League club Grasshopper and the Croatia national team, has amassed some 576k followers on Instagram alone. She posts pictures of her playing – along with some saucy snaps.
The pro soccer player uses social media to share photos of her in action and while traveling the world.

Adversely, Marković said she received unwanted attention and unsolicited messages from men following the online piece. Some of the men attempted to catfish her and pose as managers to try and get her to reply. She said:
“After that, a lot of people wrote to me pretending to be managers, and I know exactly what they want from me,” she said. “They’ve never seen me play football and only look at the outside. I find that a great pity. I think such people should find out more beforehand and see what I can do in terms of football.”
Horrifyingly, some of the messages included photos of male genitals.
