Samuel Peralta Sosa, born November 12, 1968, better known as Sammy Sosa, is a famous Dominican-American former professional baseball right fielder. He spent 19 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB), mostly with the Chicago Cubs.

Early Life and Education
Sammy Sosa, who has some Haitian ancestry, was born in the Dominican Republic. Although he was born in a Batey village in Consuelo, San Pedro de Macors, which was “the largest town nearby,” is where he is officially listed as having been born.
Sosa is referred to as “Mikey” by his family and friends. Both his given name, Samuel, and his nickname, Mikey, were offered by his maternal grandmother.
Career
Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire gained widespread recognition in 1998 for their ability to hit home runs while attempting to break Roger Maris’ single-season home run record.
Sosa set a number of franchise records while playing for the Cubs and went on to win seven All-Star games. He spent time with the Baltimore Orioles and the Rangers once more before calling it a day.
Sosa became the fifth player in MLB history to hit 600 home runs while playing for the Rangers, becoming the sixth overall.
Sosa is one of just three players in the National League since 1900 to reach 160 RBIs in a single season, and he ranks second all-time among MLB players with foreign births in terms of home runs (2001).
He also holds the distinction of being the only player to hit 60 or more home runs in a season three times, which he did in 1998, 1999, and 2001.
Although he did lead the league in 2000 and 2002 with 50 and 49 home runs, respectively, he did not lead the league in home runs in either of those seasons.
