Early Life, Childhood and Education
Koshy was born as Elizabeth Shaila Koshy on March 31, 1996 in Houston, Texas, and raised there. Jose Koshy, her Indian father, is a petroleum executive, and her mother, yoga instructor Jean Carol (née Hertzler), is of German ancestry.
Liza has two older sisters, Olivia Koshy and Rachel Koshy. She was enrolled in a dual language educational and cultural program from kindergarten to fifth grade, where she learned to speak Spanish.
After graduating from Lamar High School in 2014, Koshy enrolled at the University of Houston and began studying business marketing but later dropped out of college in 2015 and relocated to Los Angeles to pursue her career.
Koshy began her career in 2013 by posting comic videos on the Vine platform with the name, “Lizzza,” where she posted short comedic videos. Koshy had 7 million followers when Vine shut down in 2017.
By 2016, Koshy had made a name for himself on the YouTube platform. Koshy interviewed President Barack Obama on her YouTube channel in November 2016, just before the 2016 election, to encourage voter registration.
