Funmi Awelewa was born on October 12, 1993, in Ibadan, Oyo State, where she grew up with her siblings and parents. While growing up, she had her early education at Francis M Nursery and Primary School Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State, where she obtained her first school leaving certificate.
After her primary education, the talented actress proceeded to further her education at Orogun Grammar School, also in Ibadan, Oyo State. She applied and got admitted to the prestigious University of Ibadan, where she graduated.
Funmi Awelewa’s acting path took a turn when she crossed paths with Shola Kosoko, a notable Nigerian filmmaker and actress. In early 2014, Kosoko ensured that Awelewa landed a role in her drama series “Osikenke.”
