Early Life and Education

Fana Mokoena was born on 13 May 1971 in Kroonstad, in South Africa’s Free State province. He grew up in South Africa and later studied at the University of Cape Town, where he completed his education before moving fully into the performing arts.

Career

Fana Makoena began his acting career as a full member of the Playhouse Theatre Company in 1993 and made his television debut in the South African TV film The Line in 1994. He later took on a small role in the 1997 thriller Dangerous Ground before appearing as Thula in the popular South African drama series Yizo Yizo in 1999.

His career continued to grow, and in 2004 he played Rwandan general Augustin Bizimungu in Hotel Rwanda. In 2006, he portrayed Jaws Bengu in The LAB, a role he held until 2009.
