Early Life and Education
Dr Dre was born to the family of Theodore and Verna Young, on February 18, 1965 in Compton, California. His father’s amateur R&B group, the Romells, inspired the creation of his middle name.
His parents wed in 1964, were divorced in 1972, and got divorced again in 1968.
Later, his mother remarried and had three children with Curtis Crayon: daughters Shameka and Tyree (both died) and boys Jerome and Tyree
Dre started attending Compton’s Vanguard Junior High School in 1976, but due to gang violence, he changed schools to the more secure Roosevelt Junior High School in the suburbs.
The family frequently changed residences, residing in both apartments and homes in the Los Angeles neighborhoods of Watts and South Central as well as Compton, Carson, and Long Beach.
According to Dre, he spent the majority of his childhood in Compton’s New Wilmington Arms housing project with his grandmother.

His career began in 1985 as a member of the World Class Wreckin’ Cru, and a year later he joined the gangsta rap group N.W.A.
Dre was also recognized as a significant contributor to the development and acceptance of West Coast G-funk, a hip-hop subgenre distinguished by a synthesizer foundation and slow, powerful beats.
Dr. Dre became one of the best-selling American music artists of 1993 after leaving the defunct N.W.A and Ruthless Records in 1991. His solo debut studio album, The Chronic, was released in 1992.
