Benu Mabhena is a Zimbabwean actress who appeared in the 2006 film Blood Diamond. Mabhena’s passion for performance art was evident from a young age. She would impersonate people and tell stories to those around her. As she grew older, she became more interested in poetry, writing and reciting poetry.
Her credentials were strengthened while attending Diablo Valley College and participating in theatre.
She chose to live in Southern California after college and pursue her acting dreams, landing a role in ‘Blood Diamonds’ (2006).

Early Life and Education
Benu was born in London, while her parents and five brothers were born in Zimbabwe. After four years in London, the family returned to Zimbabwe, where they stayed for another two years.

Benu and actress Jennifer Connelly would visit and volunteer at an orphanage in Mozambique on their days off while filming the multiple award-winning film, an experience Benu considers to be one of her most memorable.
In the film Blood Diamond, she plays Jassie, Hounsou’s wife; one of the couple’s children was in a refugee camp, while the other had joined a rebel movement after being brainwashed.
She appeared in “Jazz Man” for KoldCast TV’s cutting-edge Web series “Night Walkers” and Princess 2006 for the American Film Institute. Benu can also be seen in Life on the Edge: A Global Crisis 2008 as Herself.
