Ben Chilwell first had trials at Rushden & Diamonds, which was 24km from his home. After a successful trial at Rushden and Diamonds, he started playing with the team from where he gathered the rudiments of being a successful football player.

Rushden & Diamonds sparked his interest, attracting the attention of Leicester City academy scouts, who invited the promising player to trials.

Chilwell traveled 87 kilometers from his home to take part in a successful trial with Leicester which lasted for six weeks.

Move to Leceister

Chilwell began his life at the age of 12 in Leicester. Unfortunately, he was unable to settle into the club three years after being purchased.

Chilwell was one of four youth footballers who, despite working hard, were not promoted to Leicester City U16.

He stayed with the U15 team while the rest of his age group switched to the U16s. Despite his fears, he was not released. Considering his struggles to be promoted to the U-16 side, he started thinking of a switch from football to cricket because the year before his struggles, Chilwell had just been signed into the cricket’s Northants academy and even went to Loughborough for an ECB England U15s trial.

Chilwell’s dad was instrumental to Chilly’s choice of career at his time of challenge as he advised and convinced his son to stay concentrated and put more efforts in football as he will surely make it in due time.

It took no time before Chilwell bounced back and rejoined his promoted teammates. Following that, he was named Academy Player of the Year at the end of the 2014-15 season.

The 2015/2016 season marked a watershed moment in his club and national careers. Chilwell was promoted to the Leicester senior team that season and also received an England U18 call-up. That same season, he won the premier league title with Leicester City.

Chilwell joined Championship club Huddersfield Town on a youth loan until 3 January 2016 on November 19, 2015.
