Early Life and Education
Dwayne Douglas Johnson was born in Hayward, California, to Ata Johnson (mother) and Rocky Johnson (father), a previous expert wrestler.
Johnson spent his childhood in New Zealand with his mother’s family, where he attended Richmond Road Primary School in Gray Lynn before returning to the United States.
He attended Montclaire Elementary School in Charlotte, North Carolina, before relocating to Hamden, Connecticut, where he worked for two or three years at Shepherd Glen Elementary School and Hamden Middle School.
Johnson attended President William McKinley High School in Honolulu, Hawaii, Glencliff High School and McGavock High School in Nashville, Tennessee, and Freedom High School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania for a long time.
Johnson also began participating in sports, including turf football, Olympic-style events, and wrestling crews at his secondary schools.
Career
Football:
The Rock first started out as a football player. Johnson was an exciting football revelation who received offers from numerous Division 1 universities.
He chose a full scholarship from the University of Miami, where he mostly served as a protective handle. He was a member of the Miami Hurricanes’ National Championship team in 1991.
After suffering various injuries, he was eventually replaced in the starting lineup by future Pro Football Hall of Famer Warren Sapp.
Johnson signed as a linebacker with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League after graduating with a Bachelor of General Studies in criminology and physiology in 1995. He was placed on the practice squad but was released two months later.
Wrestling:
Johnson chose to pursue a career as an expert wrestler after his football career which was marred by injury. In 1996, veteran grappler Pat Patterson arranged for Johnson to compete in a few World Wrestling Federation tryouts.
Tom Prichard provided additional preparation, as did Achim Albrecht and Mark Henry. On Monday Night Raw on February 13, 1997, he defeated Hunter Hearst Helmsley to win the Intercontinental Championship.
The Rock then successfully defended his title against Helmsley in In Your House 13: Final Four. He made his WrestleMania debut at WrestleMania 13, where he successfully defended his Intercontinental Championship against The Sultan.
The Rock formally announced his retirement from professional wrestling on August 3, 2019.
Acting:
Johnson entered Hollywood and the film industry, becoming a star using his wrestling fame and well-known work ethic. He has established himself as one of Hollywood’s best and most generously compensated actors.
While wrestling, he began his acting career on television. In The Game Plan (2007), he played an arrogant acclaimed American football player, and in Getting Smart, he played Agent 23.
It was announced in May 2013 that he would executive produce and star in Ballers, an HBO parody show about NFL players living in Miami, Florida.
By December of that year, Forbes had named Johnson the top-earning on-screen character of 2013, with his films grossing $1.3 billion worldwide.
In 2019, he directed and starred in Fighting with My Family, a satire dramatization about WWE superstar Paige and her family, who are also skilled grapplers.
Johnson’s involvement with The Fast and the Furious franchise continued with Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw, which starred Johnson and Jason Statham.

Hashian and Johnson married in Hawaii on August 18, 2019. They have two daughters (Jasmine Johnson, Tiana Gia Johnson).
