The “triple threat” as she is called by media outlets began her acting career on the children’s television series Barney & Friends where she acted thirteen episodes of the show between 2002 and 2004. In her teenage years, she rose to fame for her lead role as Alex Russo in the Disney Channel television series Wizards of Waverly Place (2007–2012).

Early Life, Childhood and Education
Selena Gomez was born in Grand Praire in Texas, USA on July 22, 1992. Her parents are Ricardo Joel Gomez who is of Mexican descent and Amanda Dawn (Mandy) Cornett, a former stage actress who was who was adopted, and having some Italian ancestry. Her mother was just sixteen when Selena was born. Selena was named after popular singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez.
At the age of five, her parents divorced and Selena remained with her mother who had three jobs so as to be able to support her and cater for her. They had trouble with money as her mother struggled to provide for them. Selena got her high school diploma through homeschooling in May 2010.
Gomez had a close relationship with her grandparents as a child as they were the ones that took care of her while her parents finished their schooling, and she has said they “raised her” until she found success in show business.
Career
Selena started her acting career when she began auditioning for various roles during an audition for Barney & Friends. And was eventually selected to appear on the series in 2002. Selena played the role of “Gianna” on Barney & Friends and appeared in 13 episodes. She appeared in Barney alongside fellow actor, Demi Lovato. She also had a small part role around this time in the film Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over in 2003. Also at the early stage of her acting career, she appeared in a recurring role in Disney’s popular Hannah Montana in 2007, where she portrayed a pop star.
