Mildred Okwo was born on April 29, 1966, in Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria. She is the youngest child in a family of four children. Okwo studied Theatre Arts at the University of Benin, Edo State, Nigeria, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Theatre/Theatre Arts Management.
She later pursued law studies in the United States, attending Whittier Law School in Orange County, California, where she earned her Doctor of Law (JD) degree. Okwo’s filmmaking career began after her return to Nigeria in 2005-2006. Her directorial debut was “30 Days” (2006), which received 10 nominations at the 2008 Africa Movie Academy Awards.
In 2012, she directed “The Meeting”, a romance comedy-drama that became one of the top box-office draws of 2012 and won multiple prestigious awards including the Africa Movie Academy Awards for Best Movie.
