Abdulsalam Suliyat Modasola, born in 1999 professionally known as Liya is a 24 years old fast-rising Nigerian Afrobeat singer and songwriter known for her unique voice and sound. She came into the limelight after releasing her first single under DMW with the music video having Davido in it. She now release songs independently after being formerly signed to DMW from 2020 to early 2023.

Early Life and Education
Abdulsalam Suliyat Modasola, born in 1999, around Ketu, Lagos was born and raised in Ketu and Alapare. Liya attended an Arabic school relocating with her parents to Ikorodu in 2011.
Liya got the admission to study Yoruba Language in the University of Ilorin in 2014, before then she had bagged a Bachelor of Arts degree in Linguistics.
In an interview with Wale Oloworekende, she added “I go to church with my parents sometimes because they had a lot of Christian friends.I grew up a lot around music as there was a Cherubim and Seraphim church behind my house. There were also music classes in my Arabic school of which i also picked up lot of melodies from.”
Career
2020 became a turning point in the life and music career of Liya after she was introduced to the public through Davido’s tweet, 5 hours after their meeting in a club. On September 14, 2021, Liya spoke in an interview with OkayAfrica saying “I played Davido a couple of my songs, including “Melo’ and he was hooked, then he asked me and my manager to travel with him the nexxt day to Abuja. During our trip, he started saying “First lady way’, which he also took to twitter.”
On October 2020, she officially signed for DMW, as the first female artist under Davido’s record label. On 27 December 2020, Liya had already been cited as one of the 10 Nigerian Artistes to Watch by Guardian LIfe Magazine.
Liya announced her first extended play “Alari” in July, 28 stating that it will be released officialyy on 20 August 2021, through DMW. On 21 August 2021, a strong music critic, Motolani Alake said “Liya (debut track: Melo) creatively reinterpreted a sample from Angélique Kidjo’s song ‘Agolo,’ turning it into a lively and rhythmic pop song with a touch of regal grace.” during his first impression on the extended play and called it an impressive debut EP.
She got nominated for The Headies in the Best Vocal Performance category for females on 24 May 2022 for her song “Alari”. She also released a remix of her song Adua featuring Simi in 2022.
