He’s worked with a variety of artists on the label, including Roman GianArthur, St. Beauty, Deep Cotton, and Janelle Monáe herself, and then began recording The Eephus, a five-song collection of the label’s inaugural extended play (EP).
Jidenna released his first official song, “Classic Man”, with GianArthur in February 2015. The song was heavily played in the US and debuted at number 49 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart.
The EP’s second single, “Yoga,” by Janelle Monáe and Jidenna, was released on March 31, 2015. At the 58th Grammy Awards, his song “Classic Man” was nominated for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.

The musician created his unique style in college, where his psychology professor Philip Zimbardo taught him about the power of dress.
He would not, however, acquire his distinctive dandy style until his father’s death in 2010. Jidenna characterizes his style as a “marriage of European and African aesthetics” that is “heavily inspired by the Harlem Renaissance with elements of traditional West African design.”
