Ahmed Idris was born and raised in Kano State, the Northern region of Nigeria where he hails from.

The previous independent audit was conducted before Amobi assumed office, in violation of financial norms governing government-owned businesses, which require annual audits.

Further suspicions were raised when it was discovered that the 2018 NBET budget included $43,565,908 for a 2017 audit that never happened, as well as money for non-existent audits in 2018 and 2019.

Further reports revealed that Idris had sent employees from his office to NBET, in violation of another regulation. Idris did not reply to inquiries about the controversy.

“It was paid to Delta State…any recovery arising from looted funds from a particular state goes to the state,” Idris stated under oath before the House ad hoc committee on recovered loot on May 25, 2021.

It was later discovered that Idris’ deception might have been prosecuted as perjury because he lied under oath before a House committee.

Ahmed Idris, Nigeria’s Accountant-General, has been detained on suspicion of money laundering and misappropriation of state monies.
According to sources familiar with the situation, Mr Idris was apprehended in Kano by EFCC operatives on Monday evening and is being taken to Abuja, the country’s capital, for questioning.
