Ganesh “Peter” Gavankar, an engineer from Mumbai who first immigrated to the US to pursue a master’s degree, and Shan Demohra “Mohra” Gavankar, an immigrant from Pune who is half-Indian and half-Dutch, had Gavankar as a child in Joliet, Illinois.
