Ike Ekweremadu, born May 12, 1962, is a Nigerian lawyer and politician from Enugu State who has served in the Senate of Nigeria since May 2003. He was the deputy senate president for three consecutive (6th, 7th and 8th) senate.

Early Life and Education
Igbo by descent, Ike Ekweremadu was born in 1962 at Amachara Mpu in the Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State.
He graduated from the University of Nigeria with both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in law, and he was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1987.
In addition, he has a law doctorate from the University of Abuja in Nigeria.
Career
On the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) platform, he was chosen Executive Chairman of the Aninri Local Government Council in 1997, and the same year, he earned the Best Council Chairman of the Year award.
In 1999, Chief Ekweremadu was chosen to be the governor of Enugu State’s chief of staff. He held that position through 2001.
Later, in 2001, he was appointed Secretary to the Enugu State Government, a position he held until 2002.
He was chosen to serve in the Nigerian Senate on April 12, 2003.
The claims of bribery made by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister Mallam Nasir el-Rufai were the subject of a serious examination by the senate, according to Chief Ekweremadu, who was vice chairman of the senate committee on information at the time.
Nasir El-interactions Rufai’s with the senate were tense, and in 2008, El-Rufai was finally charged with corruption.
Sen. Kenechukwu Nnamani defeated Ike Ekweremadu in the 2005 election for President of the Nigerian Senate.
As the Southern Senators’ Forum’s spokesperson in July 2006, Ekweremadu refuted claims that the group had struck a pact to hand the North back power in the 2007 elections.
In September 2006, Vice President Atiku Abubakar was accused of fraud in a report by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
President Olusegun Obasanjo requested that the Senate review the report.
Even though he acknowledged that impeachment would be challenging given that it requires a 2/3 majority, Ike Ekweremadu pledged to form a committee of investigation whose report would be delivered to the Senate.
Ekweremadu was elected to the role of deputy senate president after being re-elected in the Nigerian National Assembly election on April 29, 2007.
