Early Life and Education
Frederick Leonard was born on May 1, 1976. He is the first child of Igbo parents and a native of Nnewi, Anambra State, Nigeria. He was born decades before his sister, and he was born into a family of two children.
Frederick grew up in a fun-filled household; his parents owned an amusement park in Lagos, meaning the his childhood was full of fun. Frederick Leonard lost his father in 2000, leaving his mother to care for him and his sister.
He received his primary education at St Peter’s Anglican Primary School in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos State, and his secondary education at Oregun High School in Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos State.
To advance in his education, he moved to Kaduna State in Northern Nigeria and applied to Kaduna Polytechnic, where he was accepted and graduated with a B.SC degree in Biochemistry.
Career
Frederick is one of many celebrities who discovered their acting abilities while studying something completely unrelated to acting at a tertiary institution. Leonard made his film debut in Nigeria in 2001, playing a brief one-scene role.
He left acting almost immediately to finish his university education. He returned to the industry in 2008, landing his first lead role in “Indian Doctor” the following year. After this film, Frederick got his big break.
The 2008 blockbuster movie not only attracted him to more producers and directors, but it also won him two distinguished awards at the African Movie Awards and African Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
In 2009, he decided to have a taste of what the Nigeria soap opera scene feels like as he appeared on several episodes of Disclosure. The TV series aired on the popular African movie cable channel – African Magic.
