Daluxolo Christopher Mpofu, born in 1962, better known as Dali Mpofu, is a famous South African lawyer, politician, and former businessman. He was the National Chairperson of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) from 2014 to 2019. From 2017 to 2022, he sat on the Judicial Service Commission. From 2005 to 2009, he was the president and CEO of the South African Broadcasting Corporation.

Early Life and Education
Born in 1962 in Duncan Village, situated outside East London in the former Cape Province, Mpofu’s upbringing was shaped by his mother, Nosebenzile Doris, a domestic worker.
He emerged as a fervent participant in the anti-apartheid movement around the time of the 1976 Soweto uprising, evolving into a “radical” activist, as he recounts.
At a mere 17 years old, he was apprehended for his political engagement as a member of the Congress of South African Students, facing charges of sabotage and arson.
Following his acquittal in April 1981, he ventured into employment as a spot-welder at a Mercedes-Benz factory, concurrently advocating for the South African Allied Workers’ Union.
Moreover, he disclosed that he clandestinely affiliated himself with the African National Congress (ANC) underground in 1980.
By 1986, Mpofu had embarked on his academic journey at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), where he assumed the role of president within the Congress-aligned Black Students’ Society, triumphing in an election against Black Consciousness advocate Xolela Mangcu, as he attests.
His unwavering commitment led to his detention without trial at John Vorster Square in 1986. Subsequently, in 1987, Mpofu contributed his efforts to Kathleen Satchwell’s law firm, and he successfully attained his BProc degree from Wits in 1988.

In 1993, Dali Mpofu was admitted as an advocate of the High Court, and his legal expertise earned him senior counsel status in 2014.
Renowned for his involvement in politically sensitive cases, he has notably represented various significant clients.
Notably, he stood for striking mineworkers during the Marikana Commission, Tom Moyane within the Zondo Commission, and Busisiwe Mkhwebane during the Section 194 Enquiry.
As of 2021, he has assumed the role of lead counsel for former President Jacob Zuma in his corruption trial. Having been a longstanding member of the African National Congress, Mpofu defected to the EFF in 2013.
