Early Life and Education
Murphy was born on 25 May 1976 in Douglas, Cork. His mother was a French teacher while his father, Brendan, worked for the Department of Education. His grandfather, aunts, and uncles were also teachers. Murphy was raised in Ballintemple, Cork alongside his younger brother Páidi and two younger sisters Sile and Orla. He started writing and performing songs at the age of 10.
Murphy born a raised a Catholic, went to Presentation Brothers College, an all-boys private Catholic school in Cork, Ireland. He performed well academically but often times got into serious trouble which left him sometimes suspended. In his fouth year, he acknowledge the fact that misconduct of any form was not right.
Murphy was never interested in sports even though it was a part of the school’s extra curricular activities. He cherished and loved artistry but it was highly neglected by the school.
