Chris Rock Biography: Chris Rock is a well-known and versatile American actor, stand-up comedian, film producer, and director.

He is well-known as a stand-up comedian and rose to prominence for his appearances in films such as Head of State, Down to Earth, The Longest Yard, the Madagascar film series, and others.

Comedian Chris Rock grew up in Brooklyn, New York. At age 18, he was discovered by Eddie Murphy at New York’s Comedy Strip. He went on to appear in films and on Saturday Night Live, and soon released his first comedy album. 

He gained more recognition for his work on the Lifetime sitcom Everybody Hates Chris.

He has already received four Emmy Awards, three Grammy Awards, and has hosted the Academy Awards twice.

Early Life, Childhood and Education

Chris Rock was born on February 7, 1965 as Christopher Julius Rock in Andrews, South Carolina, United States to parents Julius Rock and Rosalie. His family relocated to Brooklyn, New York.His father was a truck driver and newspaper deliveryman before he died in 1988 while his mother was a teacher and social worker.

Chris is the oldest child in a family of seven children which include six boys and a girl. His younger brothers, Jordan, Tony and Kenny are all into entertainment business.

Chris dropped out of school and later earned a GED.

With influences such as Flip Wilson, Woody Allen, Rodney Dangerfield, Eddy Murphy, and Richard Pryor, Chris Rock developed a passion for comedy.

His comedic themes are always centered on celebrities, romance, music, and politics.

Chris began his career as a stand-up comedian in 1984, while also acting in films such as I’m Gonna Git You Sucka and the TV series Miami Vice.

From 1990 to 1993, he appeared on the sketch comedy series Saturday Live Night. Born Suspect, his first comedy album, was released in 1991.

In 1994, he appeared in his first HBO comedy special, Big Ass Jokes, as part of the HBO Comedy Half-hour.

With his second special, Bring the Pain, released in 1996, he cemented his place in the comedy world. In addition, he had two more HBO Comedy Specials: Bigger & Blacker in 1999 and Never Scared in 2004.

Chris appeared in films such as Boomerang, New Jack City, and Beverly Hills Ninja as a supporting actor. He also appeared in the comedy film Dogma with Matt Damon, George Carlin, Salma Hayek, Bem Affleck, and Alan Rickman.

He co-wrote the film Down to Earth with his friend Louis C.K., and he also produced and starred in Pootie Tang, directed by C.K., in 2001.

He wrote and directed the political comedy Head of State (2003) as well as the marital comedy I Think I Love My Wife (2007).

In 2010, he made numerous film appearances. One of these is the black comedy Death at a Funeral, starring Tracy Morgan, Kevin Hart, Luke Wilson, Martin Lawrence, and others.

In 2012, he appeared in the romantic comedy film What to Expect When You’re Expecting, alongside Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Banks, and Cameron Diaz.

Personal Life

On November 23, 1996, Chris Rock married Malaak Compton-Rock, the founder of Styleworks.

The couple resided in New Jersey and had two daughters named Lola Simone and Zahra Savannah.

As a result of infidelity, Rock and his wife divorced in 2016.
