Early Life and Education
Cairo Ojougboh was born on September 8, 1959, in Ika South, Delta State, to Chief Corlenso Ojougboh and Mrs. Angelina Ojougboh.
He attended Pilgrims Baptist Primary School and later graduated from St. Columba’s Grammar School in 1976. Cairo attended Auchi Polytechnic before earning his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from the University of Benin in 1985.
Career
Cairo’s political journey began as the Chairman of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) from 1998 to 1999. His roles as the Presidential Liaison Officer to the President on NASS and Special Assistant to the President on NASS (2007-2011) marked his commitment to public service.
He later served as the Chairman of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) from 2013 to 2015. Within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Cairo held prominent positions, such as National Vice Chairman and Chairman for the South South region (2014-2016) and Deputy National Chairman (2016-2017).
His political acumen also led him to serve as the Political Adviser to Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark and as the Executive Secretary of the National Unity Group (NUG). Cairo Ojougboh chaired several influential committees, including the Petroleum Resources Committee and the Ad hoc Committee on EFCC Recoveries.
Additionally, he served as a member of key committees such as Power, Ethnic & Privileges, and Industries in the Nigerian House of Representatives.
In 2019, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh entered the gubernatorial race in Delta State under the All Progressives Congress (APC). His candidacy showcased his continued dedication to public service and a desire to contribute to the development of his home state.

Death
On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, When Nigerians gathered to support their national team in the Africa Cup of Nation (AFCON) semi final match against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa, tragedy struck Delta State when Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, suffered a fatal heart attack while watching the match.
At the moment when South Africa scored a penalty against Nigeria, Dr. Ojougboh shouted and collapsed. However, despite immediate efforts to save him, he succumbed to the heart attack.
