Abiola Ajimobi was born on December 16, 1949, in Oja-Oba, Ibadan where he grew up.
He is from a royal family, his father, Pa. Ajimobi was an Honourable member of the House of Assembly representing the Old Western Region.

Abiola began his education at Saint Patricks Primary School in Oke-Padre, Ibadan but he changed to Ibadan City Council Primary School, Aperin, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate.
He proceeded to Lagelu Grammar School where he received his senior school certificate.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York where he studied Administration and Finance.

Professional Career
Abiola joined Management and Industrial Consulting Firm in 1977 as a senior consultant after returning to Nigeria.
He also worked with Modulor Group and Nestle Foods PLC as the Operations Controller and Marketing Controller respectively.
He got employed by National Oil and Chemical Marketing Company, a subsidiary of Shell Petroleum as the Consumer Products Manager in 1979 and later got promoted to Divisional Manager.
He was appointed as Oil Sales Manager in 1996 after completed an international assignment at Shell International Storage Company of Togo, where he served as Chief Executive from 1993 to 1995.
Abiola Ajimobi served as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Oil and Chemical Marketing Company before he retired in 2003, after 26 years of service in the oil and gas sector.
Political Career
After his illustrious career in the oil industry, in 2003 Abiola Ajimobi contested and was elected Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, serving as the Deputy Minority leader.
He contested for governorship in 2007 under the umbrella of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) but he was not victorious, and he contested again in 2011 under Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) which he won.
In 2015, he contested alongside Christopher Alao Akala and Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, and he won to go for the second term in office. He won the election under the All Progressive Congress (APC).
On March 9, 2019, Ajimobi contested in the Oyo South senatorial election under the APC and lost to PDP candidate Kola Balogun.
