Early Life and Education
Tom Cruise was born into the family of Thomas Cruise Mapother III (1934-1984), an electrical engineer, and Mary Lee (née Pfeiffer; 1936-2017), a special education teacher, on July 3, 1962 in Syracuse, New York.
His parents, who were of English, German, and Irish heritage, were both natives of Louisville, Kentucky.
He has three siblings, Lee Anne, Marian, and Cass are who all ladies.
William Mapother, one of his relatives, is also an actor who has worked with Cruise on five occasions. Cruise was raised as a Catholic and in close to poverty.
Tom Cruise spent 14 years in 15 different schools. His family moved to Beacon Hill, Ottawa, in late 1971 when his father accepted a position as a defense adviser with the Canadian Armed Forces.
