Early Life And Education
Shane Patrick Hughes was born on June 7, 1996, in Rabie Ridge, Johannesburg, to a mixed-heritage family – his mother is Coloured and his father is Irish.
After his parents’ divorce at age five, he lived with his father in Kempton Park, Johannesburg, while regularly visiting his mother in Rabie Ridge.
The nickname “Eagle” came from a group of friends in Rabie Ridge, which he later incorporated into his stage name. He began rapping in high school and recorded his first song at 13 at a friend’s studio.
Career
After high school, Shane Eagle applied for The Hustle, a rapping reality competition, and finished fourth. He gained a public image and fan base, then released his debut single “Way Up” in 2015, which received favorable airplay on South African radio stations. He later became a presenter on V Entertainment, but left before the show’s revamp.
In 2016, Shane Eagle released several non-album singles through his independent label, Eagle Entertainment, and opened for J Cole at the Castle Lite Unlocks concert.
Shane Eagle’s debut album Yellow was released on August 31, 2017, supported by lead singles “Let It Flow” and “Need Me” featuring KLY. The album achieved over one million streams on Apple Music in November 2017 and won Best Hip Hop Album at the 24th South African Music Awards. “Let It Flow” was certified gold in September 2019.
Shane Eagle embarked on The Yellow Tour in 2018, performing in four cities. He then released his EP Never Grow Up in December 2018, which was also certified gold. In 2021, he released singles “Ammo” featuring YoungstaCPT and “Skydream” featuring Redveil.
