Early life and education
Akeredolu was born on July 21, 1956, in Owo, Ondo state, to Reverend J. Ola Akeredolu and Lady Evangelist Grace B. Akeredolu.
He had his primary education at Owo’s Government primary school. For his secondary, he attended Aquinas College in Akure, Loyola College in Ibadan, and Comprehensive High School in Ayetoro, respectively. At the esteemed University of Ife, now known as Obafemi Awolowo University, he graduated with a degree in law. After earning his degree from the university in 1977, he enrolled in law school in 1978.

Career
Akeredolu held the position of attorney general for Ondo State from 1997 until 1999. In 1998, he was designated as Nigeria’s Senior Advocate. He held the position of chairman of the Legal Aid Council from 2005 until 2006. But in November 2005, the members of the bar association accused Akeredolu of being corrupt. Following numerous reviews, this claim was withdrawn.
On February 4, 2022, he was designated Grand Patron of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) by its Chairman, Brig-Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd). As a token of appreciation for his significant services to the Nigerian Bar Association, Rotimi Akeredolu was named after the association’s new secretariat in Abuja in 2012 while serving as its president.
As his political career progressed, November 27, 2016, proved to be an important milestone for Akeredolu as he defeated opponents Olusola Oke and Eyitayo Jegede to win the Ondo State gubernatorial election. On February 24, 2017, he was sworn in as the next governor of Ondo State in Akure. Rotimi Akeredolu won 15 of the 18 local governments in the 2020 Ondo State gubernatorial election, defeating opponents in the APC primary election, including Olusola Oke, D.I. Kekemeke, Jimi Odimayo, and Segun Abraham.

Rotimi Akeredolu is married to Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu. They’ve been married for over four decades. This love tale created a family of four, with two sons named Oluwarotimi Akeredolu Jr. and Babajide Akeredou and two daughters named Yejide Runsewe and Dr. Teniola Akeredolu.

Akeredolu has been receiving treatment for leukemia since January 2023. He died on December 27, 2023 after failed attempt on flying him abroad for treatment.
