Early Life and Education
Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen was born and raised in the former Bendel State of Benin. He attended the Eghosa Grammar school there.
He gained fame at the school for his playing performances when he was 9 years old. He was a member of the Beninese theater company known as Earth Pot Culture.
When he was in second grade, he joined this troupe. He quit the group in 1992 and went to Port Harcourt to get a professional certificate in theater arts.
Career
Since 1995, Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen has primarily worked as a producer and director of films.
In his films, he explores hitherto unrecognized facets of the African experience, such as tribalism, witchcraft, criminality, poverty, and folk beliefs.
Nogbaisi Ovonramwen, an epic film by Imasuen, will begin filming in 2013. The final Oba of Benin will be the subject.
Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen was followed while he was filming his 157th movie, Bent Arrows, in 2008 by the Canadian documentary Nollywood Babylon, which was co-directed by Ben Addelman and Samir Mallal and produced by AM Pictures, the National Film Board of Canada, and the Documentary Channel.
In January 2009, the documentary screened as part of the Sundance Film Festival’s Official Competition. 2010 saw the introduction of Bent Arrows on the Nigerian domestic market.
