Isaiah Joel McClain, born May 16, 1991, professionally known as Isaiah Rashad, is an American rapper, singer and songwriter. He came into prominence after performing at the 2012 Smoker’s Club Tour with rappers such as Juicy J, Joey Badass and Smoke DZA.

He was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, raised primarily by his mother, who is a hairdresser. At his tender age, his father would let him stay up late while they listened to Too $hort and Scarface.

Isaiah Rashad is a founding member of The House, a Chattanooga hip hop collective alongside fellow Chattanooga rappers YGTUT, Michael Da Vinci (MikeyD), Chris P, and Brian Brown.

Early Life and Education

Isaiah Joel McClain, who is known by his professional stage name Isaiah Rashad, was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he was raised primarily by his mother, who is a hairdresser.

While growing up, Rashad’s father would let him stay up late while they listened to Too $hort and Scarface songs. His father left them when Rashad was 3-year-old.

Rashad wanted to become a preacher after his stepbrother lent him a copy of OutKast’s ATLiens in junior high, however he spent most of his time learning how to rap. He always go to the mosque with his mother and stepfather.

He had his high school while living with his mother and proceeded to Middle Tennessee State University.


Isaiah Rashad began his career while growing up with his mother, stepfather and stepbrother. He would be rapping while his friends would record on laptops. His first stage name was Zay Taylor, before he later changed to Isaiah Rashad.

During his time in the Middle Tennessee State University, his then friend introduced him to a friend who had a recording studio, who happened to be Rashad’s cousin and gave him free recordings. He stopped going to school and lived wherever he could record.

From July 13 to August 23, 2012, Isaiah Rashad toured with Juicy J, Joey Badass and Smoke DZA with other superstars, on the 2012 Smoker’s Club Tour. In December 2012, Rashad earned attention from several record labels, most of which he showed no interest.

The talented rapper released free singles on SoundCloud using beats from popular producers including MF Doom and Flying Lotus while helped in boosting his fame in the music industry.

Isaiah Rashad has worked with top superstars releasing hit songs and studio projects which top charts for some weeks. During an Instagram live video on June 20, 2019, he played a new excerpts of a song produced by Kenny Beats, announcing the title of his upcoming studio album to be The House Is Burning.

On April 22, 2020, Rashad released the song “Why Worry” as part of TDE’s Fan Appreciation Week. His music is described by its woozy, often nostalgic tone and conscious lyrics that touch on topics of depression, drug addiction, and family.

Personal Life

Isaiah Rashad has three children although he is not yet married and not in a any relationship.

After he was signed to Top Dawg Entertainment, he got a tattoo to commemorate the partnership.

During promotion of The Sun’s Tirade in 2016, Rashad revealed that he had been addicted to Xanax and alcohol, and was suffering from depression, anxiety and isolation. He also revealed that he was no longer taking Xanax and only drinks socially.

In a 2014 interview with Vice, Rashad revealed that at age 19 he attempted suicide multiple times due to the situation he was facing.
