Early Life and Education
Eva Gaëlle Green was born in Paris, France on July 6, 1980. Her mother, Marlène Jobert, is a well-known French actress and singer. Walter Green, her father, is a dentist and occasional actor. Joy, Green’s twin sister, is married to an Italian count.
Normandy is where her sister and her husband live. Eva Green is the great-granddaughter of music critic/composer Paul Le Flem through her father.
She is also a first cousin of actresses Joséphine Jobert and Elsa Lunghini, as well as the Swedish-French actress Marika Green and cinematographer Christian Berger.
She grew up in France and attended the American University of Paris, an English-speaking institution.
She also spent time in Ireland and London while growing up. As she was incredibly shy in her youth, the actress’ mother sent her to a therapist. Later, Green took acting lessons in order to become more sociable.

Eva Green made her first appearance on a magazine cover when she was only two months old. In the early 2000s, she made her stage debut in the plays ‘Jalousie en Trois Fax’ and ‘Turcaret.’ In 2003, she made her film debut as Isabelle in the drama film ‘The Dreamers.’ Soon after, she landed a role in the crime drama ‘Arsène Lupin.’
Green played Sibylla of Jerusalem in the Crusades film ‘Kingdom of Heaven’ (2005). She was considered for a role in Brian De Palma’s film ‘The Black Dahlia,’ which she turned down at the time. In 2007, she portrayed Serafina Pekkala in the film adaptation of the novel ‘The Golden Compass.’
In 2008, the French actress starred as the tortured artist Emilia in the fantasy film ‘Franklyn.’ She then starred in ‘Cracks,’ in which she played a teacher at a girls’ school who falls in love with one of her students. Green then starred in the film ‘Womb,’ in which she played a woman who clones her deceased boyfriend.
In 2011, she starred as Morgan le Fay in the TV series ‘Camelot.’ She appeared as a vengeful witch in Tim Burton’s ‘Dark Shadows’ in 2012. Two years later, she reprised her role as Artemisia in the film 300: Rise of an Empire.
From 2014 till 2016, the actress portrayed the character of Vanessa Ives in the horror series Penny Dreadful. During this time, she also played the titular role in the “Sin City” sequel titled “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For” (2014).
Green appeared in the flick “Home for Peculiar Children” after a couple of years.
In 2017, she got featured as Elle in Roman Polanski’s drama film ‘Based on a True Story’. That year, she also played Emilie in the Swedish-British-German flick ‘Euphoria’
