Elizabeth Michael was born and raised in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to parents Michael Kimemeta and Lucrecia Kalugira. Surrounded by the vibrant arts culture of Tanzania’s largest city, she developed an early passion for acting.
She attended Remnant Academy for primary school and completed her secondary education at various institutions including Perfect Vision High School and St Mary’s High School, balancing academic and artistic interests.

Elizabeth’s acting career started at the tender age of five when she was discovered by actor Mahsein Awadh (Dr Cheni) and joined the Kaole Sanaa Group. Her first major role as Nemu in the TV drama “Dira” put her on the map.

Elizabeth’s life faced turmoil following the death of fellow actor Steven Kanumba in 2012. She was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 2017 and sentenced to two years in prison.
However, she was pardoned by President John Pombe Magufuli in 2018, released after six months, and completed the rest of her sentence through community service.
