Edwin Watenya Sifuna, born May 22, 1982, better known as Edwin Sifuna, is a popular Kenyan politician and the current Senator of Nairobi County after being elected in the 2022 Kenyan general election. He serves as the deputy minority whip in the Kenyan Senate and is the secretary general of the ODM Party.

Early Life and Education
Edwin Sifuna’s birth took place on May 22, 1982, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Mumias, located within Kakamega County.
His father served as a civil servant in the now-disbanded Municipal Council, while his mother, currently retired, was a teacher at Moi Primary School in Bungoma. Among his siblings, he has two brothers and two sisters.
Sifuna’s educational journey began at Kakamega Township Primary School, and he continued his studies at Musingu High School, where he successfully completed his KCSE exams. Following this, he pursued a Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Nairobi, graduating in 2006.
In 2007, he earned his postgraduate diploma from the Kenya School of Law. Sifuna gained valuable experience during his pupilage at Kairu & McCourt Advocates in Nairobi, and in 2008, he was granted admission to the Roll of Advocates.
Career
In 2013, Sifuna began his involvement with CORD, where he served as a member of the Technical/Advisory Committee for a three-year term.
He later took on the same role within NASA. During the 2017 Kenyan general election, Edwin Sifuna declared his intention to run for the Kanduyi Constituency Member of Parliament seat under the ODM Party banner. Despite his aspirations, he faced defeat during the primaries in April, losing to John Makali.
With a mere two months remaining until the August general elections, ODM nominated Sifuna as their preferred contender for the Nairobi senatorial seat, which was then held by Mike Sonko.
In the election, Sifuna garnered 674,056 votes (42.51%), coming in second to the victorious Johnson Sakaja, who secured 811,826 votes (51.20%).
In February 2018, Sifuna was appointed Secretary-General of the ODM party, succeeding Ababu Namwamba. His contributions extended beyond the party, as he was elected vice chair of the Center for Multiparty Democracy (CMD) in 2019.
Returning to the political arena in the 2022 Kenyan general election, Sifuna once again set his sights on the Nairobi Senatorial seat. Through his campaign efforts, he amassed 716,876 votes, securing victory and becoming the elected senator for Nairobi.
As of February 2023, he has taken on the role of Deputy Minority Whip within the Senate, further contributing to his responsibilities in serving the people of Nairobi.
