Delta State is mourning the death of Chief Shimite Winifred Bello, Special Adviser to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Trade and Export, who died on Monday, April 21, 2025, in a suspected domestic violence incident. Her husband, described as a pastor, has been arrested.
Initial reports suggest Bello succumbed to injuries linked to domestic violence, though poisoning rumors remain unconfirmed. She was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital in Asaba before her death.
Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu also confirmed the tragedy, urging vigilance against abuse. Comrade Victor Ojie warned: “Marriage is not by force. It’s better to lose your marriage than to lose your life.”
Bello’s aide, Tameta Sunday, directly implicated her husband in a social media post: “An ugly soul called pastor… cut all the positive plans we had together.”
The Delta State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer Superintendent Bright Edafe, has officially acknowledged the death of Chief Shimite Winifred Bello, Special Adviser to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Trade and Export, and confirmed her husband’s arrest as part of an ongoing investigation.
While authorities have not disclosed the exact cause of death, family members allege his involvement in the incident.
