Bandile Edgar Wallace Masuku is a renowned South African medical doctor and politician who has served as a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since May 2019. From May 2019 to October 2020, he served as the MEC for health in Gauteng. Masuku is an ANC (African National Congress) party member.

Early Life and Education
Bandile Masuku was born at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, which was located in the now-dissolved Transvaal Province.
His upbringing was rooted in Soweto, and despite facing challenges, he persevered. An instance of his determination was when he was expelled from school.
While a student at Sekano-Ntoane Secondary School, Masuku became actively engaged in youth activism, eventually becoming a part of the Congress of South African Students (Cosas).
After an initial setback, he repeated matriculation in 1992, having not succeeded in the previous year.
In 1994, he embarked on his educational journey at the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, pursuing a BSc.
Subsequently, in 1998, he enrolled for a degree in medicine, and by 2004, he had successfully completed his degree, overcoming challenges along the way, including repeating a year.
His commitment to leadership was evident as he served as the chair of the university’s Student Representative Council (SRC).
Masuku’s influence extended beyond the university campus, as he was elected to the national executive committee of the South African Students Congress in 2002.
Career
In 2013, Masuku assumed the role of spokesperson for the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL).[2]
Masuku’s professional journey encompassed various hospitals, including notable institutions like the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, and Pholosong Hospital.
His specialization was obstetrics and gynecology. Prior to his designation within the Gauteng provincial government, he held the position of director in the obstetrics and gynecology unit at the Thelle Mohoerane Regional Hospital in Vosloorus, situated on the East Rand of Gauteng.
In 2019, Masuku engaged with Neels Beukes, the Assistant Director of the Gauteng Medical Supply Depot, to gain insights into the depot’s operations. His assessment affirmed that the depot was functioning optimally, operating at 100% capacity.
Taking office on May 22, 2019, Masuku assumed the role of a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
Premier David Makhura entrusted him with the responsibility of serving as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Health, an appointment formalized on May 29. The official swearing-in ceremony took place on May 30.
