Pascal Gabriel Dozie (April 9, 1939 – April 8, 2025) was a prominent Nigerian entrepreneur, economist, and business leader. He is best known for founding Diamond Bank and playing a pivotal role in Nigeria’s financial sector. His influence extended beyond banking to include significant investments in telecommunications, notably with MTN Nigeria. Dozie also served as the chairman of Pan-Atlantic University and was a founding partner of Africa Capital Alliance.

Early Life and Education
Born in Egbu, Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria, Pascal Dozie grew up in a Catholic family led by his father, Charles Dozie, a catechist.
His educational journey began at Our Lady’s School Emekuku, followed by Holy Ghost Juniorate Seminary and Holy Ghost College in Owerri, where he earned his West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Dozie pursued higher education at the London School of Economics, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics.
He furthered his studies at City University in London, obtaining a Master’s degree in Administrative Science with a focus on operational research and industrial engineering.
Career
Pascal Dozie’s professional career commenced in the United Kingdom at the National Economic Development Office and as a part-time lecturer at North Western Polytechnic. He later worked as a consulting economist for the African States Consulting Organisation in Uganda before returning to Nigeria in 1971.
Upon his return, Dozie founded the African Development Consulting Group (ADCG), collaborating with major corporations like Nestle and Pfizer.
In 1985, he became Chairman of Progress Bank. Recognizing the banking challenges faced by traders in Southeastern Nigeria, Dozie applied for a banking license that led to the establishment of Diamond Bank in 1990. As CEO from 1991 to 2006, he transformed Diamond Bank into one of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions.
Dozie also held prominent positions outside banking, serving as President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange and Chairman of MTN Nigeria. His investments in MTN Nigeria showcased his forward-thinking approach to business.
Personal Life
In 1969, Pascal Dozie married Chinyere Dozie, and their marriage lasted for over five decades. They were blessed with five children: Uzoma Dozie, Ngozi Dozie, Chijioke Dozie, and two others who prefer to maintain a private profile.
The family has more than ten grandchildren. Dozie remained deeply committed to his Catholic faith throughout his life.
Death
Pascal Dozie passed away on April 8, 2025, at the age of 85. His family remembered him as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and faithful servant of God.
