Early Life and Education
Mendes was born to Brazilian parents on June 29, 1994 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Her mother, Gisele Carraro, works as a flight attendant, while her father, Victor Mendes, is a business executive.
Viviane Mendes is her elder sister. Soon after giving birth, she relocated to Atlanta before returning to Virginia and eventually settling in Orlando, Florida.
Growing up, she relocated 16 times, but spent most of her time in Florida because of her father’s job and later, her parents’ divorce.
She spent a year in Brazil when she was 10 years old. Mendes graduated in 2012 from the American Heritage School‘s Fine Arts department in Plantation, Florida.
Mendes received his degree from New York University‘s Tisch School of the Arts in May 2016.
Career
Camila Mendes’ first acting gig was in an IKEA ad. In the 2016 season of The CW’s adolescent drama series Riverdale, a subversive adaptation of the Archie Comics, Mendes was cast as “silver-tongued high school sophomore” Veronica Lodge.
The Carson Kolker Organization, which subsequently became CAA, was Mendes’s agent. In December 2017 and February 2018, she was featured on the covers of Women’s Health and Cosmopolitan, respectively.
The New Romantic, which had its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in March 2018, marked Mendes’ debut in a major motion picture as Morgan.
