Early Life and Education
Sol Phenduka was born in Vosloorus, Gauteng, and raised by a single mother. His father denied paternity when he was born, which he later learned and resented.
He attended St Francis College in Benoni, completing his matric in 2006. He then graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Johannesburg in 2011. Phenduka developed an interest in music at a young age and started as a rapper.
Career
Sol Phenduka’s career began with an internship at YFM, leading to a co-hosting role on Mo Flava’s breakfast show, “Flava In Da Mornin.”
After four years, he moved to 5FM, joining DJ Fresh’s breakfast show “Fresh at 5”. He later resigned to focus on other projects and joined Kaya FM to co-host their breakfast show with Dineo Ranaka.
Since November 2020, Phenduka has co-hosted “Podcast and Chill” with MacG, a popular YouTube podcast covering entertainment and social issues. In 2014, he was a celebrity housemate on Big Brother Mzansi, finishing in seventh place.
Phenduka is also a music producer, composer, and songwriter, with singles such as “Isolomzi” and “Uthando Lwakho”, and an album titled “Chapter One.” His music spans genres like deep house, electro house, and Afrobeat.
In 2023, he released a song called iJager, featuring Murumba Pitch. In addition to radio and music, Phenduka hosted the SA Hip Hop Awards in 2021 and hosted the Big Brother Mzansi spin-off, “Ses’fikile” on Mzansi Wethu, as well as the reunion of the Showmax Original reality series This Body Works For Me in March 2023.
