Early Life and Education
Born on September 4, 1964 in Erinja, Yewa South local government area of Ogun State, Egbetokun graduated from the University of Lagos with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics in June 1987.
He later obtained a master’s degree in Engineering Analysis in 1996. Egbetokun briefly lectured in Mathematics at Yaba College of Technology.
He continued his education, earning a postgraduate diploma in Petroleum Economics from Delta State University in 2000 and an MBA from Lagos State University in 2004.
Additionally, he obtained a PhD in Peace and Security Studies from Al-Hikmah University in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Career
Egbetokun joined the Nigeria Police Force on March 3, 1990, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police. In 1999, while serving as a deputy superintendent of Police, he was appointed as the chief security officer to the then-governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, who is now the President of Nigeria.
Throughout his career, Egbetokun has held various positions including Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos, Squadron Commander of the MOPOL and Anti-Fraud Unit in FCT Command, Abuja, Chief Superintendent of Police in Administration at the Lagos State Command headquarters in Ikeja, Area Commander in Osogbo, Osun State Command, and Area Commander in Gusau, Zamfara State Command.
On June 19, 2023, President Tinubu appointed Egbetokun to succeed Usman Alkali Baba as the Inspector General of Police.
Prior to this appointment, he served as a Deputy Inspector-General of Police and was supervising DIG for the South-West geo-political zone, overseeing the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja since April 6, 2023.
