Ikechukwu Onunaku was born on October 20, 1981, in Manassas, Virginia, to Nigerian parents.
However, he spent his formative years in Lagos, situated in the southwestern region of Nigeria. After finishing his secondary school education at King’s College, Lagos, he later relocated to the United States.
Career
Ikechukwu’s hit single “My Name is Ikechukwu” from the album “Son of the Soil” achieved chart-topping success, holding the No.1 spot in the East, Lagos, and Abuja for 21, 6, and 5 weeks, respectively.
His third album, “The Alliance Reconstructed,” featured other notable tracks such as “Critical” and “Now Is the Time.” Additional singles in his repertoire include “Bu Lie Oto,” “B.A.D.A,” “Carry Me,” and “Balabala.”
He made his debut in the world of cinema with a short feature produced and directed by Walter Taylaur titled “The Wages,” which garnered critical acclaim.
The short film was selected for screening at AFRIFF 2014 and won the Best Short Feature award at the AMVCA’s in 2015.
