Early Life and Education
Egobunma Kelechi Nwodim was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on March 10, 1988, to Nigerian immigrant parents of Igbo descent.
She is related to Premier League footballer Eberechi Eze, her cousin, who plays for Crystal Palace and the England national team.
Nwodim completed her high school education at Eastern Technical High School in Essex, Maryland, in 2006. She then earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Southern California. After college, she honed her comedy skills at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Los Angeles.
Career
Nwodim launched her performing career at UCB, where she wrote and performed a one-woman show titled Great Black Women…and Then There’s Me.
In 2016, she gained recognition as one of the New Faces at the Just for Laughs comedy festival and appeared in the CBS Diversity Showcase.
She has acted in supporting roles on TV shows such as Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders, 2 Broke Girls, and Living Biblically, as well as numerous Funny or Die sketches.
Her addition to the cast of Saturday Night Live as a featured player was announced in September 2018, and she was promoted to a repertory player in September 2020.
In April 2025, she was fined by the FCC due to a Weekend Update sketch featuring her character “Ms. Eggy.”
Personal Life

Nwodim does not have any publicly known spouse or children. She has shown support for her cousin Eberechi Eze by wearing his Crystal Palace football jersey during SNL sketches in 2023 and again in May 2025 after the team’s FA Cup win.
