Early Life And Education
Chinko Ekun hails from Ikare, Ondo State, Nigeria, and was brought up in Ikeja, Lagos State. He is the second child among three siblings in his family.
His educational journey took him through Blessing Nursery and Primary School as well as Remade Nursery and Primary School in Lagos State, followed by Baptist Model High School in Ijegun, where he completed his secondary education.
After graduating in law from Obafemi Awolowo University, he also completed his National Youth Service Corps in Lagos State.
Career
Chinko Ekun discovered his love for music at the age of 7 and developed a passion for commercial and rap music during his first year at university. He officially entered the music scene in 2011, sharing freestyle videos on Instagram before releasing his debut track “Ekun” in 2013.
In 2014, he collaborated with Olamide on several tracks from the “Street OT” album and showcased his talent at Olamide Live In Concert (OLIC) that year. Chinko Ekun is known for his versatile style, rapping in English, Pidgin, and Yoruba, with a focus on hip hop music.
His unique stage name, “Chinko Ekun,” is a combination of “Chinko,” inspired by a comparison to a Chinese person during his university days, and “Ekun,” taken from his first official track.
In 2015, Chinko Ekun joined Olamide’s YBNL Nation, releasing debut singles “Alejo Oran” and “Emi Na Re.” After his contract with YBNL expired in 2016, he signed with Dek-Niyor Entertainment in 2017.
Chinko Ekun gained widespread acclaim in 2018 with the release of “Able God,” featuring Zlatan and Lil Kesh, earning him the “Best Street Hop Artiste” award at The Headies 2019. The song was also recognized at the 2019 City People Music Awards, winning “Street Song of the Year”.

At the SummerJam 2022 conference at Pastor Bolaji Idowu’s Harvester’s Church in Lagos state, rapper Chinko Ekun opened up about a dark period in his life following a fallout with his record label, Dek-Niyor Entertainment.
He revealed how he lost his deal, possessions, and royalties, as well as experienced a breakup that left him heartbroken and ultimately led him to contemplate suicide.
