Benson Mutua professionally known as Bensoul, born on March 4, 1996, is a Kenyan singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He gained mainstream recognition in 2019 after signing with Sauti Sol’s record label, Sol Generation Records. In 2023, Bensoul started his own record label called Lion of Sudah after his five-year contract with Sol Generation ended.

Early Life and Education
Bensoul was born and raised in Dallas, a slum in Embu, Kenya. His father, a musician who played bass and electric guitar, influenced his interest in music.
Bensoul attended the Technical University of Kenya to study civil engineering but dropped out in his third year to pursue music.

Bensoul’s career began with playing bass guitar for the Kenyan band, Hart The Band, and he released “Masheesha,” a collaboration with them in 2016.
He has written songs for various artists, including “Uliza Kiatu” and “El Shaddai” for Hart the Band, “Telenovela” by Kidum, and has also written for Alikiba, Ben Pol, Nyashinski, Sautisol and Mercy Masika.
Notably, he co-wrote “Time Flies” for Burna Boy’s African Giant album, which won a Grammy award. In 2019, Bensoul became the first artist signed to Sol Generation Records, releasing his first song under the label, “Lucy,” followed by “Favorite”.
He released the Qwarantunes EP in 2020 and the song “Nairobi,” featuring Mejja and Nviiri The Storyteller, and the Medicine EP in 2021.
Bensoul released his debut album, Lion of Sudah, in 2023, which was his last work under Sol Generation. The album is a tribute to cannabis and calls for its legalization in Kenya.
Also in 2023, he announced his departure from Sol Generation and the development of his record label, Lion of Sudah.
