Early Life and Education
Asia Irving was born Asia Susan Irving on January 12, 1991 to Drederick and Elizabeth Irving in Seattle, Washington and was raised with her younger brother, Kyrie, and younger step-sister, London, in West Orange, New Jersey.
Her father played professional basketball and was a basketball coach in New Jersey.
Her brother, Kyrie Irving, is an American professional basketball player for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA), who was awarded as the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2012 and was the reason she started designing.
Her mother, Elizabeth Irving born as Cynthia Janette White Mountain, was an American college volleyball player who played for the Boston University Terriers women’s volleyball team as well as a trained Pianist who sang and played gospel choir hymns. She died of an illness, a Drug induced sepsis syndrome when Asia was five years old, which made her husband, Asia’s dad, Drederick raise Asia alone with the help of her aunts.
Asia Irving enrolled in a course and graduated from Temple University in 2013 with her Bachelor’s of Science (B.Sc.) in accounting. She later earned her associate of arts degree in fashion merchandising from the Fashion Institute of Technology.
Career
Irving is a fashion designer whose work has been featured in many well-known publications such as Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Harper’s Bazaar, L’Official, InSyle, and Sports Illustrated.
After her education, she began her career at the age of 23 when she relocated to California to work as a makeup artist for M.A.C. Cosmetics. However, she became costume designer for her brother.
Irving also designed costumes for a number of athletes including her brother, Skylar Diggins, Kevin Durant, James Harden, Sue Bird, and Megan Rapinoe.
Irving opened children’s clothing boutiques called Elizabeth Smith in the Northeast Ohio and New Jersey; the boutiques carry the brand Crib Rock Couture. Iirving co-owns and operates Sydney, a clothing boutique in Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, and a pop-up store in the Hamptons.
In the spring of 2018, Irving released a clothing line for “90s x Purpose “, a nostalgic collection of 90’s inspired t-shirts that feature cartoons.
In June 2017, the 31 years old Temple University trained accountant cum Fashion designer starred in an episode of the Houzz series My Houzz, in which she surprised her father with a major home renovation.
