The Department of State Services has released Adejuwon Soyinka, a renowned investigative journalist who was detained upon his arrival at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
Soyinka, who serves as the Regional Editor for The Conversation Africa, was taken into custody by DSS operatives after his return from the United Kingdom, as confirmed by a friend who reached out to Punchng.
According to the acquaintance, Soyinka was detained by Department of State Services (DSS) officials at Muritala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos at around 5:40 am on Sunday, August 25, 2024, following his arrival from the United Kingdom on a Virgin Atlantic flight with no explanation provided and he said Soyinka was unresponsive while under detention.
He also mentioned that the DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya claimed he was unaware of the situation.
However, In a subsequent message, Soyinka’s friend mentioned that he had been released by the DSS but his passport was retained.
