Four students of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) have been suspended indefinitely for allegedly raping a female student.
The students are Akpan Matthew, Essien Fidelis, Bassey Joseph and Bassey Columbus, they have been suspended from the school and under investigation by the Police.
According to a statement released by the Head, Directorate of Information, Public Relations and Protocol of the institution, Akaninyene Ibanga, states that the rape incident took place at the Obio Akpa Campus of the institution in Oruk Anam LGA.
Akaninyene Ibanga said the police investigation is ongoing and the students would be expel based on the outcome of the investigation.
He said:
“The students were first suspended by the university authorities as normal procedure to allow them attend police interviews as part of investigations to establish their level of involvement in the crime.
“There is no way the police will exonerate them, because the victim had obtained a medical report to back up police findings.
“Once the police conclude their investigation and send the report, the university would expel them.”
